If you're planning your child’s first trip to the beach on Maui, get ready for a memorable day of sun, sand, and smiles! Whether you're headed to the laid-back shores of Kaanapali on the west side or the more challenging waters of Wailea in the south, there are a few essentials you won’t want to forget when packing for your little one- many of which can be added to any Beach 2U Rentals packages, under Beach Essentials.
Here's a helpful guide on what to bring when you bring your child to the beach in Maui.
Children’s Beach Essentials
Maui's beaches are stunning, but the Hawaiian sun can be intense, and beach days with a child require some special preparation. Here are a few must-haves to keep your little ones comfortable and safe:- Child-Safe/Reef-Safe Sunscreen and Sun Protective Clothes: The most important thing is to shield your child from the sun. Bring a wide-brimmed hat, child-safe sunscreen, and UV-blocking sunglasses. You'll also want a lightweight, long-sleeve rash guard for added protection, especially when your little one starts splashing around. You can order a unisex protective hat and child-safe sunscreen as you customize your beach equipment rental.
- Beach Umbrella: You’ll need a shady spot for naps and to keep your child cool. A UV-protective umbrella is a must and is especially important on Maui where the midday sun can be very strong. One of our large beach umbrellas is included in one of our rental packages. Additional beach umbrellas can be ordered if you have a larger family or need more shade.
- Extra Towels to Create a child Beach Mat or Blanket: The sand on Maui's beaches can get hot, so order additional towels to create a beach mat or blanket. You'll find additional towels can be added to your order under “Additional Beach Gear” on the order page. It’s important to provide a clean, cool surface for your children to play or rest on.
- Toys for the Sand: Bring along a few kid’s beach toys to keep your little one entertained. Simple items like a shovel and pail will spark plenty of curiosity! Check out the Beach Activities and Beach Essentials as you customize your beach day. Save the valuable space in your luggage for any souvenirs.
- A Change of Clothes: Don't forget to pack a change of clothes for your child's beach day. An extra outfit for your child will come in handy, especially after they’ve had their fill of playing in the water and building sandcastles.
- Snacks and Hydration: Since children don’t sweat the same way adults do, they can easily overheat. Keeping your child hydrated in Maui's warm weather is key. Bring your child's sippy cup and order plenty of bottled water, plus child-friendly snacks that are easy to eat at the beach. You can order additional snacks and drinks when you are customizing your day at the beach under Beach Essentials in the order section..
